Your lips – as individual as you

Talking, laughing, grimacing, kissing: Your lips go on the emotional rollercoaster ride called life with no ifs and buts. And just like you, your lips are unique in this world!

Lips and fingers have something in common: every person’s imprint is unique and individual. Your lips have a characteristic surface relief that remains unchanged across your lifetime. Just like fingerprints, lip prints can also be used for identification and as evidence in court.

The lips – one of our most sensual organs

Your lip print is just as personal and meaningful as your fingerprint. The difference is that lips, with their three to five cell layers, are 200 times more sensitive than the skin on a finger. As a baby in the womb, we can feel touch on our lips as early as the 6th week of pregnancy, which is hardly surprising as the lips are one of our most sensual organs. In addition, the skin on the lips is the only type of skin that is not hairy and cannot sweat or moisturize itself due to a lack of glands. Particularly in extreme situations such as heat or cold, your lips therefore tend to dry out quickly and become chapped or cracked and are exposed to temperatures without the right care. A lip balm with a sun protection factor is the be-all and end-all here, or if you prefer a more natural approach, you can also use oil and honey. Important: Don’t lick your lips, as this only dries them out even more. And don’t forget to drink – water, of course. And age also leaves its mark: if you still have the typical kissable mouth when you are young, it tends to become thinner as you get older, as the lips lose their natural volume due to a lack of collagen.

You’re supposed to kiss red lips, right?

As the skin of the lips is so thin, the blood vessels underneath are clearly visible and make up the typical red lips. The intensity of the redness varies from person to person. More important than the shade, however, is that the proportions of your lips suit you and harmonize with your face. Lips are also of great importance when interacting with the opposite sex: red, voluminous lips seem to be particularly popular, at least with men. According to a study from France, men were more willing to dig deeper into their wallets if the waitress served the food with a red-painted smile, while female guests were fairly indifferent to the shape and color of the waitress’s lips and had no influence on the amount of the tip. Our lips also actively help us to choose a partner. First, they enable us to initiate the first flirting attempts and then, when it comes to the first kiss, scents are transmitted via the lips that help us to taste the right person. We are particularly attracted to people whose immune system differs from our own.

Cupid adds character

Cupid’s bow, also known as the upper lip line, actually has a hand in beautiful lips. If this line is particularly curved or pronounced, it literally gives the lips a “hearty” shape and looks particularly attractive to onlookers. People with a rounded cupid’s bow are said to be empathetic, helpful and polite; if the bow is more pointed, this indicates a creative, passionate and sensual personality. Whether hearty or curved, our lips accompany us throughout our lifetime and tell a part of our very individual life story so it important to take care of your lips and feel completely comfortable with them.
